All aboard!
(I'm not excited at all, no siree....)
Hope your day was a great one!
Long time no see, but I'll be back in D.C. at the end of May and I can't wait! Woohoo!
I know some of you are full-time residents. Any tips on what not to miss, the best place to stay, etc... would be greatly appreciated.
Hope everyone is well.
That said, I actually really enjoyed it. Very few movies actually scare me, but I found myself getting very jumpy. Most of the acting in it was very natural as well. I won't go into the details since it's new and most people probably haven't seen it, but it's a great Halloween flick if you like "suspense" scary rather than "blood and gore" scary.
In other news, some of my friends from D.C. are visiting next weekend and I am hoping to give them a proper tour of San Francisco, with a possible side trip to San Jose for the Winchester Mystery House. I know there are plenty of tourist attractions, but I also know that quite a few of you on this list are actual San Francisco residents. If you know a restaurant or place that they absolutely must see, let me know--all suggestions are welcome!
We are, of course, going to see the Golden Gate Bridge and at some point, we'll likely go to Alcatraz. I haven't been there since I was a wee lad, so I'm incredibly excited to be going back with them.
Hope everyone is doing well!
Highlights from my recent visit:
*Being told by the hotel I originally made reservations at that I was being transferred to a sister location that turned out to be just up the street from the Lincoln Memorial (which is about a million times more impressive in person. If you haven't been, go!)
*Seeing where they filmed a part of the all time great horror classic, The Exorcist
*Having brunch with a wonderful friend and his absolute gem of a boyfriend. Not only did they make sure they took me to a place that had mimosas and terrific Greek food (yum!), they also took me on a walking tour of the entire D.C. area and part of Virginia, including a stroll through Georgetown with a healthy double serving of gelato
*Seeing history unfold in front of me by visiting all three branches of the U.S. government and a host of other famed sites, including the Watergate building
*Getting an absolutely breathtaking view of the entire area at the top of the Clock Tower
*Getting to walk through the National Gallery of Art and seeing gorgeous Spanish armor (I'm an art history freak--I was in heaven!)
And that was just the tip of the iceberg on what was an absolutely wonderful trip. I'm already considering going back in the spring to experience cherry blossom season and the list of what else I want to do is already a mile long!
Now if only I could get my computer to let me download my digital pictures.....
- I'll be getting a nephew any day now. I'm excited, but I have to admit, I feel more like an adult than ever. I plan to counter this absurd notion by spoiling the kid rotten and thus, becoming the favorite uncle.
- I celebrated getting cable in my house by promptly getting addicted to both Project Runway and Top Design. I'm not a particularly big fan of reality television and have never seen an episode of Survivor. But these shows? Are priceless. Judge Jonathan Adler on Top Design continues to crack me up with his facial expressions. That man wears his delight and distaste on his sleeve. Love it!
I also have to admit that, rather than screaming in disgust at seeing the wrong person kicked off, I'm usually in agreement with the judges on who should go home. Some of these people, however, cannot get off my screen fast enough. The egos are unbelievable.
The most priceless moment, however, has undoubtedly been when Natalie over on Top Design made her comment about the Chinese and Hiroshima. She will never live that down.
Other than that, the job search continues and things are looking up. Halloween is fast approaching and I cannot wait! Who's already planning their costume???

I have a love/hate relationship with my television.
I love my television because it is a very nice television. It brings me crystal clear picture. It's generally agreeable when I have to turn on closed captioning. It lets me watch Grey's Anatomy and Ugly Betty on Thursday nights and is there for me when I feel like playing a video game.
It's also very, very pretty.
Which would be the problem. Last night, I put in the first disc for Season One of Heroes. I had never seen an episode, but was told over and over that I was missing out.
So I watched the first two episodes.
My inner geek? Is thrilled. I love this show. Love this show so much that, instead of getting things done like I'm supposed to, I'm tempted to put in the second disc and keep watching.
My TV? Knows this. And it is mocking me.
Resistance is futile.

So, why another LJ?
My answer: good question.
I started this journal primarily to be able to keep in touch with the many wonderful people I've met on LiveJournal who, for whatever reason, decided to make the switch to "Friends Only".
Having gotten this far, I'm hoping that writing here will help inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and try some new things and meet new people. I've been told over and over, "The best thing to do is just put yourself out there."
And so, here I am.
